Trauma

Whether your trauma is relatively fresh or you are feeling the impact of traumatic childhood experiences, it is possible to have a life less impacted by that trauma. When referring to trauma, I mean anything that overwhelmed your nervous system. One definition of trauma is “too much, too fast, too soon.” With this broader definition of trauma, there is often more room to examine the effects of seemingly less significant experiences through the lens of the nervous system.

There are many different approaches to trauma treatment and I incorporate different modalities with different clients - including IFS, Polyvagal Theory, and somatic theories - but the foundation of any trauma work is stabilization. This means increasing awareness of the nervous system and adding tools for regulation. We will work to build your confidence to cope with triggers and increase your sense of safety in your life.
