“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

Eating Disorders
There is often so much complexity and nuance with eating disorders, which can make healing or recovery seem elusive. For many people with disordered eating, there is an ambivalence for wanting to change. You might be desperate to get out of the patterns you’ve been in, feeling trapped by both the rules and chaos, while also fearing losing your eating disorder. I begin with the assumption that your eating disorder has served to protect or help you in some way at some point in time. We will work to identify the ways your eating disorder might have helped you - maybe to fit in with your family origin, maybe to cope with big emotions, maybe to provide a sense of identity or safety - and then explore new ways to meet those needs. Along the way, we may explore attachment wounds, past traumas, your experience with having a body in the world (body image), emotional regulation skill building, and creating a life more in line with your values.
Whether this your first time addressing your eating disorder or you have been working toward recovery for years, it can feel terrifying to think about making changes. I will work to provide a consistent, gentle yet growth-oriented, hopeful presence in your journey to find more freedom and peace with food and your body. The treatment of eating disorders often involves a multi-disciplinary team - including a therapist, dietitian, primary care physician, and psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner - so I look forward to collaborating with your other providers, or helping you with referrals when needed.
